Notes
KGT 205: Klingon has at least two words, maHpIn and Duq, corresponding to Federation Standard "bowl", but no single word to refer to both; Federation Standard lacks distinctive vocabulary for the two vessels, so it must add on adjectives or descriptive phrases: large bowl for serving, small bowl for eating from. KGT 99f.: If the particular dish is somewhat soupy (a dish of this kind is termed a chatlh, roughly translated as "soup", though the amount of liquid is far less than what the Federation Standard term "soup" would suggest), it will arrive at the table in a large bowl (maHpIn) and a diner will pour [qang] its contents into a smaller bowl (Duq), from which he or she will consume it. Since this sort of dish is still primarily solid food as opposed to liquid, using the verb tlhutlh ("drink") to describe ingesting it is not quite right. There is another verb, 'ep, which refers to eating food of this kind. HQ 8.3: (such as ... the bottom of a bowl where a few drops of milk remain after eating cereal). The word for the interior bottom of something is bIS'ub. PUN maHpIn: "Ten pin" is the normal form of bowling. PUN Duq: 1) "duck pins" is a form of bowling with a smaller, hole-less ball and shorter, widely spaced pins; 2) Norm Duke is a pro-bowler, "the Tiger Woods of bowling"
